Pillars of Gomorrah, by mlb

I am excited to share my psychological thriller, PILLARS OF GOMORRAH, Winslow’s City on Fire meets Peacock’s series Yellowstone. The story takes place in the modern ghost towns left behind by the Utah coal industry. This gritty, 94k-word character-driven plot flows through the veiled topic of polygamy.

Paola Wells is a young widow haunted by her firefighter husband Jack’s untimely death. Seeking solitude, she moves into the hunting cabin she inherited, surrounded by a series of abandoned coal towns. Instead of isolation, she finds herself in the middle of a land dispute with her deceased husband’s influential polygamist family— a family Jack had kept hidden.

Paola unearths mysteries rooted in the past and the present, discovering Jack carried more than one dark secret to his fiery end. Embroiled in family infighting and a dispute with a rival family, surrounded by armed men in a closed society where women have no say, Paola must carefully choose her words and allies. But the man she’s come to trust, Jack’s cousin, Vaun Stark, has secrets of his own that might get people killed.

"It’s extremely rare that I complete a manuscript and don’t have any big picture concerns to address, but I simply don’t. The character development, pacing, structure, imagery, descriptions--everything is incredible. This is such an intricately woven plot with so many shocking and clever twists that just keep coming and coming and coming. I’m truly blown away by this novel."
